How many gold bars can a G550 carry back to Moscow?
Think they’re either going to stop in Ankara or London for those.

well, max pay load with max fuel load is 1, 800 lbs, max rated payload is 6, 2 00 lbs... however basic operating weight is ~ 48 ,00 0lbs and max takeoff is 91,000lbs, with capacity for 41,3 00lbs fuel
now assuming you’re going all the way from Caracas back to Moscow, you need to go 5354 NM, the max range of the G550is 6750 NM, so the CCS to VKO is going to require ~80% fuel load, or ~33,000lbs of fuel.
we’ll assume basic operating weight of 48,000 + 33,000 = 81,000lbs for fuel and aircr aft (this weight includes crew per Gulfstream’s spec page) this leaves a theoretical 10,000 lbs for gold bars. At the current going rate that’s about $ 190.5 mill ion worth.

More like how many family members: the gold will have been in a Swiss bank vault for years.

I’d be nervous enough putting 10,000lbs of gold in a fuselage rated to carry 6,200lbs... then again, greed and desperation are strong motivators for doing ill-advised things.

10k lbs of feathers, maybe, 10k of gold that can shift and fling about another level of risk.

Fuel requirements for aircraft grow faster than distance... even if you’re only going 80% of the range, I bet they’d need 85-90% fuel capacity, plus an emergency reserve.
Oh but wait, they’ve got the Gulf Stream on their side.
what a pun,

That's why it’s so sneaky!

It went from Attaturk
A
irport to Moscow and then to Venezuela.
I found the serial number, it went on sale back in 2015... but it’s owned by Ciner Aviation, I suspect a private jet rental company (or managing company... people that own private jets tend to rent them out)
The G550 has a flight-hour cost of 4,850 USD, which means that the flight to Venezuela will cost 120,000 USD.... given that the aircraft needs to return eventually.
So... yeah.

That would probably be the smarter choice ...
